GUEST PODCAST: Ed-Technical Season 2 Mini Episode 2

This season Libby Hills from the Jacobs Foundation and AI researcher Owen Henkel continue to speak with leading researchers, practitioners and educators on the Ed-Technical podcast series about the cutting edge of AI in education. They will break down complex AI concepts into non-technical insights to better understand what the research says and help educators sift the useful insights from the AI hype.

In our second short episode of the season, Owen and Libby chat about the recently released results of a US poll looking at the views of teachers, parents, and students on AI chatbots. There were some surprising findings:  more than 8 in 10 participants think technology in education has had a positive impact, and parents want to see AI chatbots used more in their child’s education. Listen in to hear more highlights from the poll.

  1. Hi,thanks for sharing this wonderful poll.
I’m a K-12 school teacher, from ganzhou, jiangxi province ,South of China. Now, I’m teaching at grade 9. Just like the teachers in US,I’m facing the similar problems:What should I do when AI is everywhere.
Before I read this poll, I thought the teachers in US can use these Generativ AI at every class and every room.To my surprise, the fact is that the situation in US is nothing different from the school I work.
We know that ChatGPT is created in US, people in US can use it freely. But here , in China, for some reasons , we Chinese can’t use ChatGPT.Fortunately, we Chinese can use the similar production like ERNIE Bot、Kimi, and so on.
So,we teachers from different countries ,stand on the same line again.
Compared with teachers of US,From this Poll ,I think teachers in both countries are the great people. They not only keep their own job being well done, but also keep learning new technology or skills to serve their teaching better.Even this will take their energy and time ,they still stick to do it.Even they have got no support from school , they still make use of their spare time to learn it.

  2. What people need to know about AI are two things. It really is a very fancy IF/THEN/ELSE statement and the old GIGO policy applies – Garbage in then you get garbage out.
