Jan Engelmann is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of California at Berkeley. He directs the Social Origins Lab, which draws on developmental, cross-cultural, and comparative methods to chart the ontogenetic and phylogenetic course of human-unique skills and motivations. Researchers in the laboratory study social reasoning, cooperation, and group mindedness in children and adolescents from different cultures and in one of our closest living relatives, chimpanzees. Jan Engelmann is a Jacobs Foundation Research Fellow 2020-2022.
